Letter from Lindsay Burch and family who visited Twitti School in July 2024
I want to reach out to let you know what an amazing time my family and I had visiting Twitti School, the Maonde family, and Zambia this July. Thank you for introducing us to Friends For Zambia and Twitti School. Visiting the school and supporting our sponsored child, Devine, and seeing up close his opportunity for education was an important and fascinating part of our Africa trip.
We spent 2 days in the care of the Maondes at the school. We were welcomed by the staff and the students in an almost embarrassing way - a whole school assembly with us as the guests of honour 😂. We were taken under Arthur’s wing, to learn all about Twitti School, its history, the area and everything else he had time to share with us about Zambia. We visited every classroom and met the teachers and receptive students. We spent time with Sipiwe and the sponsored children. We joined the students on their bus ride home, saw the area and ended in the Freedom Compound, where Devine and his mom walked us to his home. This was an eye opening experience for all of us, especially our kids.
It was very funny to arrive at Twitti School and see the names on the Donors’ plaque of all sorts of people who go to Crescent Beach, Vancouver ! I have been involved in CBSC since I was a child, from learning to swim there, to swimming races and playing waterpolo, to teaching swimming, to bringing my kids there! I have known Shelley’s daughter-in-law, Molly, and her family my whole life.
